Muscular Dystrophy Association
The Muscular Dystrophy Association seeks volunteers (16+) to help with general office duties, answering phones, preparing mailings, and organizing fundraising projects that may be held in your local community. Counselors (18+) are also needed for one-week summer camp in June. MDA serves more than 1,200 patients in the South Jersey Area. Training provided. The National Society of Colonial Dames of America operates two museums: Peachfield, a restored farmhouse in Westampton, and an old schoolhouse in Mount Holly. Volunteers conduct seasonal tours at Peachfield and at the schoolhouse by appointment. Volunteers are invited to participate in elementary school living history programs utilizing both sites. The Center for Aquatic Sciences at Adventure Aquarium, Camden, New Jersey, has opportunities for energetic, reliable volunteers with a passion for marine animals and the environment. Specific qualifications are required for some positions, but training is provided as needed. Respect for animals, people, and aquatic environments is a must. Volunteers may work directly with visitors to provide educational support as well as behind the scenes with aquarium staff to provide exhibit maintenance. Volunteers with M-F availability are particularly needed although weekend positions are also available. Generally, a 5 – 8 hour commitment every two weeks is expected, depending on the volunteer position.
